Kentucky Virtual Campus for K-12 Students

Parents

How to get started:

To be eligible for online learning through the Kentucky Virtual Campus, your child's school has to be identified as a school receiving Supplemental Educational Services. Through SES services, online instructors will assess your child's academic needs and develop an individualized curriculum. The school staff will be able to direct you to the needed paperwork if you qualify for this free service. Once that is received by KYVC, you will be contacted to initiate services.

Home-schooled learners may register by calling 502-573-1555, ext. 267 to gather more information and determine cost of the program.

How to help your child succeed:

Strong support from home and school is the most important factor in the success of a virtual student. Conflicting schedules, pressures of increased testing, and mulitple activities competing for your child's time are obstacles that can stand in their way. Online learners need encouragement from their parents who understand the challenge and support their efforts. Successful virtual students also should have reliable access to technology, basic keyboarding skills, be comfortable with getting online and using email, and have solid academic preparation.

Not only is it important to help your student with their current high school classes, they also need your support and guidance to prepare for their next step- college. The earlier you start planning, the easier the process will be. The KnowHow2GoKY.org Web site offers lots of resources for parents to learn about college planning and financing. Your student can compare colleges, explore financial aid, and even apply online at the GoHigherKY.org Web site.
